Okay, let’s be real. About 95% of the time I design something I never see it printed, much less finely printed. I think partly because we live in an all digital 72 pixels per inch kind of world, but also clients just don’t see the value in expensive printing techniques. It makes me sad to see the art of high end printing become a rarity in the design industry, but at the same time, how much more special does it make these pieces? I’m having a total design geek moment over here. Edge painting is one of my very favorite special touches. I love how it can add a pop of color of shine to business cards, and really exaggerated the thickness of a heavy paper stock. So, the next time you’ve got a client looking for something extra special or you’re in need of some magical business cards for yourself, remember these words: edge painting!
If you’d like to learn more about the process, check out this post over at of so beautiful paper, or this equally lovely one from behance
I get the impression from the behance post that you may be able to try this at home with a clamp, brayer, and some screenprinting ink or acrylic paint. I’ve got some cheap business cards I’m planning to experiment with. Please, proceed at your own risk! Good luck and have a beautiful weekend!
Oh, so pretty! What a great detail, I absolutely love the idea. I was in the social media class with you the other day and am just now getting around to checking out everyone’s blogs. Lovely! Just wanted to stop by and say hello!
Yes! I think that the edge painting is so cool. I almost wish more people would do it!
Sexy business cards ever!
